Leadership Greater Rochester (LGR) is a program of the Rochester Area Chamber of Commerce. The LGR mission is to develop emerging leaders through participation in personal, professional, and community awareness activities designed to encourage individual responsibility for taking an active leadership role in the future vitality of the greater Rochester area. This year’s class is composed of 36 business leaders from the greater Rochester area representing both small and large businesses in both the public and private sectors. |
The program began in September 2006, with a two-day retreat designed to assist the class in identifying their personal, professional, and civic skills and goals. From this retreat, the class worked collaboratively to identify and analyze needs in our local community.

| Through this process, the class determined that the greatest need in our community focused on children. Class members then interviewed leaders of several youth serving organizations to search for the greatest community impact. Ultimately, the class identified a new partnership between the Boys & Girls Club, Tri-Valley Opportunity Council, Inc., Migrant Head Start and Child Care Resource and Referral Head Start as the focus of their community impact project. They will be raising community awareness of critical children's needs and how these groups and their new partnership help to meet them.
The class continues to meet monthly to study the infrastructure of the community through the exploration of history, economic development, education, government, healthcare, diversity, and public safety. By May of 2007, they will also visit three area boards and register in the LeadershipMatch program-a partnership between the Chamber and the United Way matching leaders with community leadership positions (for more details visit: www.uwolmsted.org).
The class looks forward to further sharing their strengthened skills and talents with the community and truly believe that working together, we can do more for our children, our community and our future.
